Seven Common Sense Ayurvedic Ways to Keep Your Heart Healthy

Image result for beautiful american women girl
The statistics are frightening:

Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States.
Every 20 seconds, someone in the United States has a heart attack.
One in four Americans has some form of heart disease.
Every 34 seconds someone in the United States dies of heart disease.
Heart disease takes more lives than the next seven leading causes of death combined.

Yet, both modern medicine and ayurveda concur that there are things you can do every day to keep your heart healthy. Here we offer some suggestions to get you started. Pick one or two and start with those if you like, then add a couple more every few weeks until you are naturally living a heart-healthy lifestyle. Bonus: not just your heart, but your entire physiology will thank you.
Soothe away stress

According to ayurveda, a holistic approach to heart health requires you to nourish the emotional heart as well as the physical heart. The heart is not just a pump — it's the fountainhead of all emotions, whether it's joy and exhilaration or sadness and frustration. Mental and emotional stress can disrupt the emotional heart. Practicing the Transcendental Meditation® technique twice daily has been shown in research studies to help in lowering blood pressure, reversing arterial blockage and enhancing resistance to all types of stress.

Maharishi Ayurveda herbal supplements Worry Free and Blissful Joy nourish the mind and emotions and contain herbs like Ashwagandha and Arjuna, renowned for their positive influence on the mind and emotional heart.
Cultivate the positive

While warding off excess stress is essential to prevent the emotional heart from wasting away, actively seeking mental and emotional well-being can help the emotional heart flourish. Ayurveda talks about ojas, the substance that maintains life.

The finest by-product of digestion and the master coordinator of all activities of mind and body, ojas leads to bliss, contentment, vitality and longevity. Inner strength and poise and the cultivation of positive attitudes and emotions increase ojas. Spend time every day on those activities that give you this contentment and happiness. Listen to soothing or uplifting music, enjoy serene natural beauty, practice uplifting aromatherapy and sip relaxing herbal teas. Maintain a positive attitude and walk away from situations that distress or anger you.

Eat right

Arguably the most critical step you can take towards heart health is to eat a heart-friendly diet. For a society used to fast food and eating on-the-go, this is also arguably the most difficult step to take and maintain. But there are small things you can do to make your diet more heart-healthy. Eat more servings of fresh fruits and vegetables; start your day with stewed apples or pears; include soaked blanched almonds in your diet; dress your veggies with fresh lime juice; and eat heart-friendly spices such as fresh-ground black pepper and the antioxidant power-spice turmeric.

Choose fresh foods over processed foods or leftovers; light foods over rich, deep-fried ones; and warm, cooked foods over cold, heavy foods. A balanced antioxidant Rasayana such as Amrit from Maharishi Ayurveda is excellent nutritional support, and published research confirms that Amrit helps reduce LDL cholesterol, which has been implicated in plaque build-up.
Eat mindfully

How you eat is as important for heart health (and overall health) as what you eat. Eat moderately — the ideal ayurvedic "portion" is what fits in your two cupped palms. Don't skip meals, because eating three meals at regular times each day "trains" your digestion to anticipate and digest your food.

Stimulate a sluggish digestion with ginger, salt and lime. Have lassi, made by blending one part fresh yogurt with three parts cool water, with lunch. Spike it with roasted ground cumin and fresh cilantro for flavor. Don't tax your digestion by eating late at night or eating a heavy meal at dinner.
Cleanse ama from the physiology

Arterial plaque is ama — toxic matter that builds up in your blood vessels because your physiology cannot get rid of it efficiently. Ayurveda recommends a program of internal cleansing with every change of season to help your body flush out ama.

The Elim-Tox or Elim-Tox-O herbal supplements are formulated to cleanse the fat tissue (medha) of ama. Other things you can do to clear out ama: drink lots of warm water through the day; go to bed by 10 p.m. to help the body cleanse itself during the natural purification time; eat a lighter diet high in fiber and antioxidants from fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts; and avoid drugs, alcohol and smoking.

Exercise moderately and regularly

You don't have to do a strenuous workout five times a week. The key is regularity. If you follow the ayurvedic principle of balaardh — exercising to half your capacity — you can exercise every single day without straining your muscles. Walking is excellent exercise for everyone and excellent therapy as well. The early morning is ideal for taking a 30-minute walk. It will not only help your heart; it will prepare you for the day by charging up your circulation and your metabolism.

Research studies have linked sleep deprivation to blood pressure problems, depression and other factors that increase the risk of heart disease. Ayurveda considers sleep just as important as diet in maintaining health. Practice good bedtime habits — favor restful, calming activities as bedtime draws near to help disconnect the mind from the senses. Keep your bedroom clear of distractions — television, computers, other work-related material. Maintain a temperature that's comfortable. Wear comfortable, organic cotton pajamas. Stay away from stimulants in the evening. Go to bed by 10 p.m. — early to bed and early to rise still work to keep you healthy and energetic through the day.

Balance the ayurvedic factors

From the ayurvedic perspective, the heart is the seat of prana (life energy), which is maintained by a delicate balance of agni (the solar energy element) and soma (the lunar energy element). Excess mental and emotional stress wastes away soma in the heart. The heart, as we said earlier, is also the seat of ojas, the substance within us that maintains life and promotes bliss and longevity. To protect and nourish the physical heart and the emotional heart, it is essential to promote both soma and ojas. Heart health is governed also by three sub-doshas: Sadhaka Pitta (emotional balance), Avalambaka Kapha (stability and strength) and Vyana Vata (blood flow and beat), which, though present everywhere in the body, has its seat in the heart.

Cardio Support nutritional supplement from Maharishi Ayurveda is formulated to balance all these ayurvedic factors. The combination of Corallium rubrum (Coral), Indian Tinospora and Sacred Lotus promotes soma. Shilajit (Mineral pitch), Zinc, Mica and Licorice promote ojas. Arjuna, Cabbage Rose, Licorice, Mica, Indian Tinospora, and Corallium rubrum (Coral) pacify Sadhaka Pitta. Avalambaka Kapha is supported by Shilajit (Mineral pitch), Guggul, Zinc, Ostrea edulis (Oyster), Turbinella rapa (Conch), Cypraea moneta (Cowrie) and Hemidesmus indicus. Vyana Vata is balanced by Guggul, Boerhavia, Mica and Licorice. In particular, there are two star health herbs in this formulation — Arjuna, renowned in ayurveda for its ability to pacify Sadhaka Pitta and to nourish both the physical and the emotional heart; and Guggul, which has been shown in research to help lower cholesterol.

"How can I unclog my arteries or clean my arteries without surgery?" And, "What are some good heart foods?"

unclog arteries

A reader asks, "How can I unclog my arteries or clean my arteries without surgery?" And, "What are some good heart foods?"
First, stop doing the things that gave you atherosclerosis in the first place. In other words, your arteries didn't become clogged just by luck or chance, and hopefully you are already aware of this. They became clogged through a series of choices. These choices cover the foods you have chosen to eat over your lifetime and the level of exercise in which you have chosen to participate. So, before we get into the strategies and therapies that can reverse atherosclerosis and unclog arteries, let's talk about stopping the clogging process in the first place.
There is a huge myth out there about what causes clogged arteries and heart disease. And the myth is a carryover from the 1980s when the big dietary enemy was fat. The entire nation, it seemed, was fleeing from fat, and at the same time running toward foods made with ridiculously large amounts of sugar. Fat was a big disease causer, doctors told us, and everybody was told to go on an extremely low-fat diet. Even the American Heart Association recommended that people at risk of heart disease or those who had already suffered a heart attack avoid practically all fat in their diet. Some people were told to go on 10 grams of fat a day or even less.
And here's the big mistake of it: all fats were lumped into the same group. So whether it was fat from fish oils or fat from beef lard, it was all considered to be the same fat, and it was all considered to be the enemy of human health. Of course today we know that the hysteria surrounding fat was just that -- nothing but poorly justified fear resulting from major mistakes by medical researchers, combined with a huge marketing push on the part of food producers who discovered that selling people sugar was a lot easier, and a lot more profitable, than selling fat.
So what does all of this have to do with stopping the clogging of your arteries? It's simple, actually. There are healthy, good fats that you must get into your diet if you wish to unclog your arteries. And today it is well known that those fats include omega-3 fatty acids, fish oils, and monounsaturated fats. Basically, the kind of fats you find in oily fish, nuts, seeds, and fruits like avocados (which is, yes, technically a fruit, not a vegetable).
The first practical thing, then, that you can do is switch from all the unhealthy fats in your diet to healthy fats. That means giving up all fried foods, because all fried fats are unhealthy fats containing alarming quantities of trans fatty acids. So give up your fried foods and switch to raw foods or baked foods. You should also give up cheap fats such as the low-cost vegetable oils found in the grocery store, and move to the more expensive fats, such as cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. This is one of the cases where extra money goes a long way in protecting your health. Getting healthy fats from fish oils is also quite expensive.
But let's talk now about a strategy that’s absolutely free and that will protect you from plaque buildup in your arteries. And this is perhaps even more important than getting good fats into your diet. It is avoiding hydrogenated oils and any foods made with hydrogenated oils. That's because hydrogenated oils are the number one cause of heart disease and a major contributor to neurological disorders in the United States and around the world. Hydrogenated oils are, simply put, poison in the human body. They accelerate the buildup of plaque in the arteries. And as a result, they bring on heart disease far more quickly than would happen normally.
Hydrogenated oils are artificially processed oils that never appear in nature. They are created by food producers for the convenience of food producers – primarily to add shelf life and consistency to foods so that those foods not only taste great, but can sit on the shelf for months at a time without going bad.
A lot of people think they know that hydrogenated oils are bad for them and they think they avoid those oils by not eating fried foods or other more obvious items. But here is where most people go wrong on this: hydrogenated oils are found in virtually every baked or fried and sometimes even frozen food product in the grocery store. Consider this: in every grocery store there is one aisle that has all the snack crackers. You know, it has the vegetable crackers and the wheat crackers, it also has the cookies. This entire aisle is so contaminated with hydrogenated oils that it should really be called the hydrogenated oil aisle.
There is virtually no food product in this entire aisle that does not contain hydrogenated oils. You have to go way down the aisle to the unpopular section -- often it's located near the kosher foods -- to find crackers such as Wasa Crackers, which are made without hydrogenated oils and are baked, not fried (at least in the U.S.). But practically everything else on that aisle contains hydrogenated oils. That means every snack chip, every cookie, every cracker, every pastry, and every baked good, whether it's sweet or not, is made with this dietary poison.
The thing is, then, most Americans are consuming massive quantities of hydrogenated oils without even really recognizing it because they're eating potato chips, nacho chips, and all sorts of other snack foods found in the hydrogenated oil aisle. As a result, they are getting atherosclerosis, or a built up of plaque in their arteries. And over time, of course, it leads to widespread cardiovascular disease. But more importantly, it can lead to strokes, heart attacks, and the need for heart bypass surgery, which will set you back at least six figures, if not more.
This is, then, perhaps the single most important thing you can do to prevent the buildup of plaque in your arteries. Avoid eating any food product made with hydrogenated oils.
Now how do you do that? It's simple. You start reading labels. It is impossible to be healthy in modern society if you don't make a habit of reading the food labels of every food you purchase and consume. Personally, I don't touch a food unless I've read the label and it meets my criteria of not containing a certain list of ingredients known as metabolic disruptors.
You must start reading ingredient labels, and what you're looking for here is either hydrogenated vegetable oil or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. It can also be called partially hydrogenated soybean oil or safflower oil. The name of the oil doesn't matter. What you're looking for is the word “hydrogenated” or “partially hydrogenated.” If it has either one of those words, that food is poison. It will give you cardiovascular disease. It will harm your nervous system. It will shorten your lifespan, quite frankly. You need to put it back on the shelf, and in doing that, let these food manufacturers know that they can no longer sell you poison in a pretty box and call it food.
So those are the basic strategies of what you can do to avoid increasing the buildup of plaque in your arteries.

"I would say that I attribute regular use of the last few years of the Strauss Heart Drops in helping to reduce blockage of my circulation in my legs, I know I need to take even further action with my lifestyle, but without the Strauss heart drops, I think I would have much more severe issues. I aim to make sure I do not. This is an excellent product in my opinion." - Regards Anne, UK

HOW DO THE HEARTDROPS WORK?
The Heartdrops work by removing the plaque & calcium build-up from the arteries wall, through the large intestine. This results in clearing blockages and allowing normal blood & oxygen flow. Thus normalizing circulation throughout the entire body, improving blood pressure and cholesterol levels. (Please note: results may vary).
The Heartdrops have been used successfully for over 35 years, this herbal based formula has no long term side-effects and can work along with prescription drugs.

Ingredients:

Garlic (bulb), Crateagus laevigata, Mistletoe, (leaf) (stem), Motherwort (aerial), Cayenne pepper (fruit), Crateagus laevigata (leaf) (flower), Bilberry (leaf), White Willow (bark), Water, Alcohol.
Strauss Heartdrops contain garlic which is a proven antioxidant and proven to lower LDL cholesterol levels. The properties of garlic have been proven to stimulate cell growth and activity.  It has the ability to lower cholesterol by dissolving it in the blood stream in return opening blood vessels and reducing chances of a heart attack. This also reduces blood pressure.  Garlic is known as nature's antibiotic and it is one of Strauss Heartdrops most effective ingredients in preventing disease and heart problems.
Another ingredient in Strauss Heartdrops is Crateagus laevigata.  Crateagus laevigata is known to strengthen the muscles in the heart when used regularly.  It has been known to prevent arteriosclerosis and repair conditions like heart valve defects, enlarged heart, angina, feeble heart action, lack of oxygen in the blood, and more.
Cayenne is known to fight disease and assist with blood circulation.  In addition, it increases the actions in the heart without impacting blood pressure.  It is also said that cayenne is known to prevent strokes and heart attacks.  When used it is known to be a catalyst by taking all of the herbs quickly to the body parts where needed most.
Bilberry is known to improve circulation.  They feed the capillaries because bilberry has the ability to alter how food and nourishment passes through the blood.  Things in the body that benefit from the use of bilberry and are strengthened include coronary arteries and varicose veins.  Blood clots can be reduced also because bilberry has blood thinning properties.

Allow 30 minutes between taking different herbal and/or prescription medication.  In the 35 years that Strauss Heartdrops have been on the open market, worldwide, there has never been a negative interaction with any prescription or non-prescription medication. When a customer is taking medications we recommend that they take the Strauss Heartdrops either 30 minutes before taking their medication or 30 minutes after taking their medication. Most of our customers to start with take 20 drops (1/8 teaspoon = 1 ml x 3 times a day, (morning, afternoon and before bedtime) preferably on an empty stomach. Strauss Heartdrops and other herbal blends are not prescription drugs.  Each individual must experiment, to find how much they need to take for their body type, it is better to take more than not enough.  If you are still "not yourself" after 30 days, double up the amount and again in 30 days if you feel it is necessary.  You should not need to exceed 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) or 80 drops 3 times daily.

How to take:

Treatment Time:
For most people: Strauss recommend taking the Strauss Heartdrops for a period of 12 months. Results are usually apparent as early as 4-6 weeks, you first may notice increased energy level, warmer hands and feet, fading of varicose veins, and if applicable, noticeable relief of angina pain.

For those seeking stronger supporting benefits:
Strauss recommends an initial cleanse of 12 - 18 months, and then a maintenance dosage indefinitely. For people who have undergone ANY surgery to the circulatory system: Strauss recommend an initial cleanse of 12 - 18 months at full dosage, then reduce to a maintenance does indefinitely. The reason for this is because cholesterol and plaque builds up very quickly in arteries with scar tissue. Scaring can occur in the arteries from the surgery/stents.
